Impacting Life in the Dominican Republic
The purpose of the Mission Trip was to take LifeStraw water filters to impoverished villages near La Romana, Dominican Republic. They do not have access to clean water, so the cycle of disease continues. Since setting up these filters in these communities’ transformation is evident, children are beginning to understand the importance of clean water and sanitation. The LifeStraw purifies 12L per hour and can hold 25L of clean water at a time, we’ve gotten word that the villages are averaging 54 Gallons a day which is about 204L a day the reason their averaging so much a day is because they’ve been taking their filtered water out to other impoverished villages around them. It brings us so much joy to know that their able to put the water filters to use in more than just their village.
The trip to the Dominican Republic was special to us in many ways, but mainly because it was our first international mission trip. It was life changing. Pictures can’t describe the poverty we witnessed, you will leave being forever grateful for what you have at home. Even with these living conditions the people always had a smile on their face and the children were always eager to meet us. Every time we would walk into a village all the children would run out to greet us, they would grab us by the hand and show us around their village with pride. They don’t spend their time complaining, but choose to work hard and do it with a smile. It was an amazing opportunity to serve the lord and see god working through us. We cannot wait to go back and continue to support Impact LiFE!
